Lets talk about blonde hair! When I was little I had naturally blonde hair. As I got older it started to get darker, so when I was a sophomore in high school I got highlights for the first time! I absolutely loved it and was hooked. I mean I just look better as a blonde! So lets fast forward 18 years. I am still getting highlights and don’t plan on stopping, which means I need to take the absolute best care of my hair as I can. So how can I do that? Well I reached out to 3 hairstylists that I follow, (2 that I know personally) for 3 tips for staying a healthy blonde. These could be products or just some at home tips. All 3 of them were happy to share their thoughts with me.

Before we get into what they had to say, I want to tell you the way I am currently taking care of my hair. I do not wash my hair every day. Typically 2 times a week, sometimes 3. When I do wash my hair I use Matrix Mega Sleek shampoo and conditioner. In between washing days I use the Batiste dry shampoo. I do use Its a 10 (detangler) after I get out of the shower before I brush my hair. I brush out my hair with a wet brush. I let my hair air dry some before blow drying. Before I do blow dry, I apply a small amount of the Matrix silk wonder smoothing oil to my hair.

So what did the 3 professionals say?

My hair dresser Whitney Whitley from Split Ends Salon in Weatherford Texas said these were her 3 suggestions for blondes:

1) Using a detangler. She recommends the Living Proof Restore Perfecting Spray.

2) Getting an Olaplex service when getting your hair done. This helps prevent damage and repair the hair. It is like the ultimate hair insurance.

3) Using a Wet Brush to comb your hair out.

My friend Amber Schneemann who works in Midland Texas at The Spotted Leopard Salon said these were her top 3:

1) Be patient when wanting to go/add more blonde.

2) ALWAYS use a leave in conditioner. (detangler) Her go to is made by Pravana.

3) Using a Purple Shampoo every other time you wash your hair. (This is if you are only cleansing your hair 1-2 days a week) She recommends not leaving it on for more than 2 minutes unless you are mixing it with your regular shampoo. She prefers Pravana The Perfect Blonde purple shampoo.

Mallory Galusha who is a Balayage Blonde Specialist from Avante Salon and Day Spa in Mansfield, Texas listed these as her top 3:

1) Using the Oligo Blacklight Blue Shampoo. This Shampoo is blue based and completely cuts out warm tones to keep your blonde nice and bright between visits.

2) Using the Kerastase Elixir Oil on ends daily. This oil helps the hair stay hydrated without feeling oily. It is a strengthening oil, so it allows your hair to stay strong and prevent breakage throughout your blonde journey.

3) Do not over cleanse your hair. If you do, it is the fastest way to dry it out and weaken the hair. Invest in a great DRY SHAMPOO. She recommends The Aveda Shampure dry shampoo.

Needless to say I got some great information from these 3 ladies. I am relieved to know I was already doing some of these things but cant wait to change up my routine slightly to make my blonde the healthiest it can be!

xoxo,

Kelci
